Sometimes you don't know what to do to keep the children busy. A good solution; the playground! Children always have fun there and it's great to go out for a while. Below you can read more about nice playgrounds in Amsterdam and where they are located.
Amsterdam South
- Playground Amstelpark
You can operate the excavator yourself and slightly older children can have fun in the Disco Boats. And yes, that's what it sounds like. There is a nice sandbox and play equipment for the little ones. There is a small petting zoo where chickens, goats, pot-bellied pigs, ponies, guinea pigs and rabbits live, which can be cuddled on Wednesday afternoons.
Amsterdam Center
- Men's Market 91
A small playground among the Amsterdam mansions hidden between the Haarlemmerstraat and the Brouwersgracht. It is not a large playground, but there are all kinds of cars and bicycles for the children to play with. Awesome!
- Tweede Looiersdwarsstraat 11
Because we love the Jordan so much. They can slide, bounce on the chicken, play in the sandbox and there are loose toys for everyone to borrow.
UJ Klaren
The oldest playground in the Netherlands is the UJ Klaren in Amsterdam. You will find it in the Weteringsplantsoen in the heart of Amsterdam and is a wonderful place for everyone between the ages of two and twelve. This also means for yourself, because you can let them go with peace of mind: there is a screened-off section that is suitable for the little ones and another section that is reserved for the bigger kids (here is a huge climbing frame and high swings). At regular intervals the bicycles come out of the shed and those who have finished playing will of course go to the pancake restaurant! (ujklaren.nl)
Amsterdam North
- Noorderpark
Secretly, we think this is the best outing: cycling with the kids to Amsterdam North in nice weather. The Noorderpark, a strikingly beautiful and wonderfully quiet park less than five minutes by bike from Amsterdam Central Station. There is plenty of play equipment in the park, but of course you head straight for Pompet: one of the tastiest catering establishments in Amsterdam with a sandbox and toys next door. Win win. And you don't want to cycle? Now you can finally just take the North-South line.
- Nature playground of NoordOogst
This is truly a natural playground where the environment is used as much as possible. There is a water slide, a willow hut and a climbing course in the trees. They also have a sandbox in the shade and there are seating areas for a picnic, birthday party or neighborhood party.
Amsterdam East
- Mariotteplein
Also called the nicest playground in East. It's also really fun there! The playground is huge. There is, among other things, a football field, a basketball court, a table tennis table, swings, climbing equipment, slides, seesaw, seesaw, a water pump (nice in warm weather) and there are triple bonus points because of the toilets and the shack where you can get something tasty.
- Youthland Amsterdam
Youthland Amsterdam is a well-known place, but that doesn't make it any less fun. The Jeugdland site is a large and spacious playing area in the middle of greenery. Playing, building and messing around is allowed. There is a small petting zoo, you can build huts and even grow fruit and vegetables!
- Playground Amsteldorp
Deep in Amsterdam East, in a fairly unknown, but certainly not unloved place, a water-lined playground was created: Playground Amsteldorp. There was a climbing house and more typical playground equipment. Why so nice? It is strikingly beautiful and the place was made with love, you can tell that in everything.
- Playground Wittenburg
Playground Wittenburg is also a large and always good playground. Sandbox on fleek, and the same goes for the swings, the merry-go-rounds and the cable car. There is also a large lawn - nice for Nannies/fathers/mothers who have packed a picnic basket and there is a football cage.
Amsterdam West
- Van Beuningeplein
The Staatsliedenbuurt has a surprisingly large playground where the water sprinklers come on in the summer months. There are huge climbing towers, toys and everything you expect from a playground. Also nice: you are close to the library where a very nice kids corner has been set up.
- JJ Cremerplein
Also a spacious playground in the middle of the houses in the west.
- The Rough Playground
On the corner of Jan van Galenstraat and Willem de Zwijgerlaan you will find the enormous playground equipment that looks more like a wooden spaceship than anything else, including swing ropes, shelters, pirate ships, tunnels and mountains of sand.
- Plan West nature playground
Get off your bike at Van Speijkstraat 65, go through the gate and you can't miss it. There is a climbing rock, there are water fountains and everything is green.

Lead in sandboxes Amsterdam
September 13, 2016
Health risks due to lead in sand (box)! Does your child like to play in the sandbox? Then pay attention to the color of the sand! Dark sand in the city center of Amsterdam appears to contain lead.
