WWhat better way to spend the autumn holidays than in Amsterdam? There are all kinds of cultural activities for children on the programme. During the school holidays, Amsterdam theaters, cinemas and other locations organize special children's activities.
Below you will find some tips on what you can do during the autumn holidays with children of all ages.
Exploring and Painting in the Van Gogh Museum
During the treasure hunt you will investigate. To answer the questions correctly, you must study the paintings carefully.
The treasure hunt takes about an hour and once you have completed all the assignments you will be a lot wiser about Vincent's life, what he liked to paint, what technique he used and which paintings he was satisfied with.
After you have gained a lot of inspiration, you can get started in a studio in the Van Gogh Museum. Someone assigns you a spot at an easel, you get paint and then you can get started!
Cinekid Festival
Every year Cinekid selects unique, educational and special films to expand children's worldview.
The Cinekid Festival will kick off again on October 15 with the screening of six new films from 'Nu of Nooit!'. They are accessible films and 25-minute stories told in an original way, which are rooted in today's multicultural society. The films are mainly viewed by children between 8 and 12 years old.
Maritime adventure in the Maritime Museum
During the autumn holidays you get the chance to discover and experience five hundred years of maritime history in the Maritime Museum.
Step aboard the Zeereis and experience a lifelike adventure at sea for yourself.
Listen to the story of the Whale, learn all about whaling and how it turned the whale into an endangered species. Also discover how we viewed the whale through the ages. In a life-size whale you discover how the whale smells, hear its heartbeat and feel its skin.
See you in the Golden Age. The seventeenth century is known as the heyday of the Netherlands, then still the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Trade flourished and the Netherlands was one of the most powerful and richest countries in the world. Without shipping the Netherlands would never have gotten this far. Get to know the Golden Age in a very personal way and meet the girl Amimba at the family exhibition.
Have fun everyone!
