aIf the frozen treats and open-air swimming pools were already a success for you, then you certainly won't rule out our picnic tips! Relaxing in the sun with a blanket and tasty snacks is the perfect solution if you want to put in a little less effort with the same dose of fun. That's why we give you irresistible tips and recipes to make your picnic day unforgettable.
The first thing you need to have a successful picnic afternoon is of course a good location. Choose a location that is child-friendly such as a beach, park or nature reserve. It is also extra fun if there is a playground nearby. Once you have found a good location, the second thing you need is of course; snacks!!! Because who doesn't love snacks. You can make it as healthy as you want and to give you a helping hand, we already have some delicious and super easy recipes for you and your little one(s).
- Vegetable and fruit skewers: Thread colorful pieces of fruit and vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, cucumber, grapes and strawberries onto wooden skewers. This makes healthy food fun and attractive for the kids.
- Healthy mini pizzas: Top whole-wheat tortillas or pita bread with tomato sauce, low-fat cheese and vegetables such as peppers, mushrooms and zucchini. Bake them briefly in the oven until the cheese has melted. Kids can create their own mini pizzas and it's a fun and healthy option.
- Banana pancakes: Mash ripe bananas and mix them with eggs and a pinch of cinnamon. Bake small pancakes in a frying pan with a little (coconut) oil. These pancakes are very tasty and contain no added sugars.
- Healthy trail mix: Mix unsalted nuts, dried fruit and a small amount of whole grain cereal. Let the children put together their own trail mix by choosing from different ingredients.
- Vegetable omelettes: Beat eggs with finely chopped vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, spinach and grated cheese. Bake small omelettes in a muffin tin. This is a protein-rich and nutritious dish that children enjoy.
- Fruity yogurt bar: Mix low-fat yogurt with mashed banana and other pureed fruits such as strawberry, mango or blueberries. Pour the mixture into a shallow container and freeze it. Cut the frozen yogurt bar into pieces and serve as a refreshing and healthy dessert.
- Healthy smoothies: Mix frozen fruits such as bananas, strawberries and blueberries with low-fat yogurt and a little honey in a blender. This makes a refreshing and nutritious smoothie that little ones will love.
- Wrap rolls: Top whole wheat tortillas with slices of grilled chicken, lettuce, sliced cucumber, carrot strips and hummus. Roll them up tightly and cut them into small rolls for an easy to take and healthy snack.
- Vegetable slices with dip: Cut crispy vegetables such as carrots, celery and peppers into slices. Serve them with a healthy dip such as hummus, guacamole or Greek yogurt with herbs. This is a refreshing and nutritious option.
- Greek salad in a jar: Fill small glass jars with layers of fresh vegetables such as cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, olives and crumbled feta. Add a dressing before sealing the jar. This makes it easy to take the salad with you and enjoy it.
Now that you've enjoyed your favorite snacks in the sun, it's time for a game! We are also prepared for this because we have the best picnic games ready for you. Think of ball games, frisbees, a kite or a badminton set. But the classic picnic games are far from forgotten. For example, you can race together with sack races, egg races, tug-of-war, bottle football or you can go on a super fun treasure hunt. With these activities your picnic afternoon will be the best of the year!
Finally, we have a few important things that should certainly not be forgotten. For the safety of you and your kids, it is important to bring sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water. Also don't forget to make it as comfortable as possible for you both. Bring the softest blankets or pillows, but also consider bibs or wipes so that you make it easier for yourself if the children accidentally make a mess. And finally, it is important to involve your children in the whole process. Let them help you prepare the snacks and encourage them to help clean up after the picnic. In this way they also learn to interact with their environment in a respectful manner. Now you are ready to enjoy your time together in this beautiful weather.
