SInterklaas with Amsternannies!

On Sunday, November 15, Sinterklaas and his Pieten will turn 77 this yearste came to Amsterdam once.

He sailed in on the Amstel with his steamboat loaded with presents and of course with the Pieten at his side.

Because it is getting colder, more rain is falling and it is getting dark early, we have come up with activities that you can do indoors with your (babysitting) children during this period.

To craft

  • Make Sinterklaas' steamboat! Use an empty milk carton and all kinds of items such as paint, brushes, glue, a flag and paper.
  • Make a Miter or a Pete's Hat. For this you need a print of a mask, elastic bands and scissors.

Cooking Sinterklaas

  • Have fun baking gingerbread nuts together with your (babysitting) children. This is what you need: Mix 150 grams of butter, 125 grams of brown caster sugar, 10 grams of gingerbread spices, 250 grams of self-raising flour and four tablespoons of milk in a bowl.
Make small balls from the dough. Twenty minutes in the oven at 160 degrees and you have delicious homemade gingerbread nuts!
  • Make delicious meringues! You need this3 eggs, 300 grams of icing sugar, a few drops of lemon juice, a bag of vanilla sugar, icing sugar, a bowl and a mixer.
Beat the egg whites until stiff. Sift three tablespoons of icing sugar and mix everything. While mixing, add the rest of the icing sugar, vanilla sugar and lemon juice. You can make small mounds of foam on a baking tray with a spoon. You can of course also use a foam bag. Bake in a preheated oven for about two hours. Enjoy your meal!

Activities outside the home

  • On Sunday 22 and 29 November it is fun to go with your (babysitting) children to 'I Want to Become a Helper' in the Toverknol Children's Theater.
  • On Monday you can go to the Sint and Piet performance in the Toy Shop in the Koos Kneus Puppet Theater or to the Children's Photography Course in the Rijksmuseum.
  • On Saturday, December 5, the 10th will take placee the Sinterklaas gala for children will take place in Amsterdam's city theater.
  • The Rembrandt House organizes the reading festival for children every Monday from November 30 to January 31.

Tip for December 5

If the children are too young to write a poem or make a surprise, you can play the Big Sinterklaas Game with the family.

The Great Sinterklaas Game works as follows: everyone blows up a balloon. Everyone puts a name card in each balloon. You hang the balloons on a wire so that all the balloons end up hanging in a row next to each other. Each person takes turns popping a balloon. When the balloon is popped, the name tag falls out. The person who pops the balloon takes a present for the person named on the card.

Have fun!
