Kbooks have the unique power to open the doors to a world of imagination and adventure. They are not only useful for entertainment, but also encourage children to develop a love of reading. This year the theme of Children's Book Week is: 'At my home'. The concept of home is different for everyone and that is what this year is about. We have drawn up a list of 12 fun children's books that you can read.

  • At frog's home!

This is a book and play set in one, written by Max Velthuijs. It is early in the morning and the sun is shining. Frog knows for sure: it will be a beautiful day! He cleans his house together with Beertje, because he is expecting his friends. Visit Frog and assemble his house.

  • The Mouse House

The Mouse House is a beautiful picture book written by Karina Schaapman. This book is based on the beautiful mouse houses that the author made. It tells the story of Sam and Julia, two mice who live in a mouse house, and lets children discover the warmth of a house and the adventures that take place in it.

  • At Miffy's house

This is a sturdy cardboard book with views, with which toddlers playfully learn to recognize all the rooms in a house. Welcome to Miffy's house. What do you see in the hall and living room? There is also a lot to discover in the kitchen and bathroom. 

  • In our street

In 'With us in the street' the writer Koos Meinderts introduces their neighbors to you: Aunt Truitje, Cowboy Henkie, Kleine Jantje Hens aan Dek and seven others. And at number eleven? They live there themselves. A festive and cheerful picture book full of cheerful figures. This is a good book to read in groups 1 and 2. 

  • “The House with the Yellow Door” by Tanja Kinkel

The book “The House with the Yellow Door” is a children's book written by Tanja Kinkel. The story is about a family looking for a new home. Eventually they find an old house with a yellow door where they settle. The book explores themes of finding a new home, adapting to change and creating warm memories in a new home. 

  • Willewete – This is my house

“Willewete – This is my house” is a children's book written by Stijn Moekaars. This informative book takes young readers on a journey of discovery through the world of houses and living. The book covers different types of houses, from traditional houses to special homes such as houseboats and tree houses. It gives children insight into how people live around the world, with attention to cultural diversity and architectural variety. 

  • Children from far away

Impressive stories for young children about refugee children. Based on true stories. “Children from Far Away” is a children's book written by Martine Letterie. The book tells the story of children of different nationalities and cultures living in the Netherlands. Samuel, Tamar, Azad and Fatima are ordinary children. Until war breaks out and they have to leave everything and everyone they know behind. Looking for a place where they are safe.

  • Living in the world

This book tells everything about how people live in the world. What are the differences between living in the city and living in the countryside? What materials are used to build homes? Why do houses in northern countries have large windows? Where do people who no longer have a home sleep? You will get an answer to these and many other questions. In this book you will also find a homely poem, a large fold-out page and a mini quiz, so you can become a real expert. 

  • The little house by the river

This book was written by Selma Noort. The story is a realistic story about a special family that lives on a special dike. Joes and Amber live with their family on the river. They swim in it and they climb the pear trees that line the shore. But it is becoming increasingly dangerous to live on the narrow dike. The traffic drives right past the houses, and one day a large truck drives straight towards Joe's bedroom... The story depicts empathy and the painfulness of change, but also the comfort of new beginnings.

  • My year in the tent

“My Year in the Tent” is a children's book written by Tiny Fisscher. The story follows Emma, an eleven-year-old girl, who decides to live in a tent in the backyard of her house for a year. She makes this unusual decision for several reasons, including adventure, independence and to fulfill a special promise to her late father. During that year, Emma learns all kinds of skills, such as camping, cooking on a campfire and being independent. “My Year in the Tent” is an inspiring story that will appeal to young readers while conveying important life lessons about resilience and cherishing memories. 

  • Never believe your brother – Floor's rules

“Never Believe Your Brother – The Rules of Floor” is a children's book written by Marjon Hoffman and it is part of the popular “The Rules of Floor” series, in which the young Floor experiences hilarious and recognizable adventures. In this specific book, Floor discovers that her older brother Kees has a “Big Brother” project at school, where he is responsible for a younger child. Floor decides to find a way to control the situation, but her plans often turn out differently than expected. While Floor tries to outsmart her brother, she learns important lessons about family ties, friendship and growing up. 

  • The master forger

The children's book “The Master Forger” written by Annemarie Jongbloed tells the story of a boy named Max, who discovers that his grandfather, a retired artist, is able to forge famous paintings. Together they decide to return a stolen painting to the museum. During their adventure, Max and his grandfather learn not only a lot about art and forgery, but also about the power of cooperation, creativity and family ties. The book explores themes such as the value of art, the meaning of authenticity and the bond between generations.
